San Antonio Founders Day Celebration
A tribute to all who shaped our Heritage
San Antonio Founders DayTM is also an enduring, broad-based information and awareness effort that aims to expand our community’s knowledge and appreciation of our nearly 300-year history and heritage.  We are dedicated to helping raise San Antonio’s national ranking for widespread reading.

To spotlight our community history and heritage in 2006 Bexar County students in grades six through 12 are invited to enter either the Essay Contest or the Art Contest.  To get started students are directed to this page:  Scholarship Contest Cultural Resource Paper—Read Me First!

Our annual essay contest for Bexar County students in grades six through 12 supports that aim.  The 2005 Contest winners were honored at the Morning program.  In 2006 an Art Contest is being added for students.  Click here for the Art Contest Entry Form.

Check the List of Exhibitors to see those who celebrated our historical diversity by  participatied at the Park last year.  They have all been invited to again take part in the fun.   The History Trail will again be enlightening for both adults and children.

Note that there again will be special events designed especially for the children.  Check out the Explorers' Hide-Away!  Many children took part in all the activities.

What will happen on October 24, 2009?
The sixth annual San Antonio Founders Day TM is Saturday, October 24, 2009.  Each October, our city celebrates its growth and development as a community from the 1700s until the present.  This year the event will be held on the grounds of The Alamo and on Alamo Plaza.

Following an opening musical tribute, an afternoon of historical and cultural exhibits, musical and dance performances, and fun activities for kids of all ages are planned.  Activities are scheduled until 4:30 p.m.

All events and activities are free and open to the public.

Additional information is posted on our Celebration page.  The program and other details will be available on this site at a later date.  Please check back.

A Salute to All of Us!
